The extraction of methane gas from coal deposits results in the production of large quantities of water, typically 5- gallons per minute from each well site. The quality of this water varies across the region. The use and disposal of this water presents unique environmental challenges for Wyoming and the surrounding states. The University of Wyoming and adjacent states are actively involved in research to meet these challenges.
